L BeanLloyd Fitzgerald Stuart Bean was a well-respected individual of African Descent within the Greater Rochester Area who was highly skilled in math and science. He attended college in New York City at the Academy of Aeronautics (AOA) where he received an associate degree. He received his BS degree from RIT. He was hired by the Xerox Corporation in 1958 as one of their first Black scientists where he worked as an inventor specializing in physics and electronics. During his career at Xerox, he received 49 US patents, many more international patents, and rose to the highest rank available for Xerox scientists. He was instrumental in starting PRISM (The Program for Rochester to Interest students in Science and Math), the Xerox Consultant program, and numerous other initiatives with the goal of increasing K-12 students’ involvement in science and mathematics. Lloyd’s technical writings, patents and quick problem-solving skills remain legendary at Xerox. He retired after 42 years of service with high honors and acclaim in the technical community both within and outside the Company.

This award is granted to individuals whose contributions to the GIB Foundation cumulatively total at least $1,000
